Captain and star Batsman Pakistan Cricket Team
It is with great pleasure that I write these few lines in honor of one of the finest wicket-keeper batsmen of my era, Syed Kirmani.
Our teams have shared a storied and intense rivalry whenever India and Pakistan have faced off on the cricket field. The pressure from the crowd and media on both sides was immense, with passionate fans demanding victory at any cost. Performing under such circumstances was never easy, yet Syed Kirmani consistently rose to the occasion, especially during challenging times.
Time and again, I witnessed Syed Kirmani playing the crucial role of a sheet anchor for India, particularly during my years as captain of Pakistan. He was a man for all crises, delivering when his team needed him the most. As a wicket-keeper, he was nothing short of world-class—arguably the best in the world when it came to keeping against spinners. His dependable late-order batting often turned the tide in India’s favor, contributing significantly to their victories.
Off the field, Syed Kirmani was the epitome of camaraderie and joviality, earning the respect and admiration of not only his teammates but also his opponents. I always cherished his witty company and hold dear the many memorable moments we shared during our cricketing careers.
As Syed Kirmani embarks on new endeavors, I wish him continued success, happiness, good health, and prosperity. Warm regards,
Javed Miandad
