Deb Da

Dr. Debashish Sengupta (Deb) played a prominent role in documenting the life story of Shri Syed Kirmani that culminated in the form of a beautiful book ‘Stumped – Life behind and beyond 22 yards’. His association with Shri Syed Kirmani began soon after his award-winning book on millennials was released by the latter. Upon insistence of Shri Syed Kirmani, Deb began working on this unique project. Also, Deb’s genre of writing is business books focusing on behaviour and engagement of young people, his narrative style of writing became handy in writing this book. The numerous recorded voice notes sent to him by Shri Syed Kirmani over a period of 7 years were articulated in the form of chapters by Deb. So, in a way, we can say that Deb has been ‘pen’ to the ‘words’ of Shri Syed Kirmani. Deb is also responsible for a unique designing of this book. Upon addition of prominent journalist Dakshesh Pathak into the project, Deb suggested to divide the book into two sections, while the first half of the book is Shri Syed Kirmani talking about his cricketing journey and life after cricket, the second half of the book is devoted to a ringside journalistic perspective of the cricketing career of Shri Syed Kirmani. This unique design of the book not only lends itself a higher degree of authenticity, but also makes it different from any other autobiography written before. Deb also played a key role in bringing Penguin Random House, the publisher of ‘Stumped’, on board for this project. His previous experience as a published author and a business strategist has come in handy in designing and developing this project from ground zero.
